Mission Statement
Habitat for Humanity of Waukesha County works in partnership with God, his
people, and partner families to enrich our community by building and
renovating simple, decent, affordable housing to assist families of limited
means achieve home ownership.
How
The Program Works
Habitat for Humanity of Waukesha County is a Christian-based 501 (c)(3) non-profit, charitable organization seeking to
alleviate the shortage of quality affordable housing in Waukesha
County. For many families in Waukesha
County, having a place to call
home is impossible. Skyrocketing rent and home prices make this dream too
far out of reach. According to the 2010-2014 Waukesha County Five
Year Consolidated Plan, the fair market rent in the County in 2009 was $702
per month for a one bedroom apartment, $839 per month for a two bedroom
apartment, and $1,057 per month for a three bedroom apartment .
The median home price in 2008 was $261,700.
Through
volunteer labor and tax-deductible donations of money, land, and materials,
Habitat for Humanity of Waukesha County builds or rehabilitates simple,
decent houses. Families are selected based on their level of need,
willingness to work, acceptance of responsibilities and ability to repay
mortgage. Adult family members must each complete at least 250 hours
of sweat equity and attend 20 hours of homeowner education classes.
Qualified families purchase Habitat homes with zero-interest mortgage,
enabling them to own their home.
