United Community Center / Centro de la Comunidad
Unida
The United Community Center (UCC) is a non-profit community service
agency dedicated to a wide variety of educational, health and cultural
services for Hispanics and residents of Milwaukee's near south side. For
more than 27 years, UCC has provided a broad range of human services programs,
including a substance abuse and mental health treatment center, eldercare
day center, and an alternative middle school for at risk students, in
addition to full traditional elementary and middle school facilities.
Hurtado, S.C. has provided pro bono assistance on a number of the
construction contracts for new UCC facilities. Attorneys at the firm also
act as coaches for the elementary school basketball league. Hurtado, S.C.
has worked to secure bond funding for the construction of a new building to
house UCC's Alternative Middle School program and
for renovation of the existing school facilities to create a new cultural
center for display of works by Hispanic artists, expansion of the fitness
center and school offices.
